There was only one version of frames for both the XLH and XLCH for 1972. So if it is a 72 frame it will be a long frame. The VIN pads appeared in 69 but yours does not seem to have one to me. As others have said, it might have been ground off for some reason.
While the date code says C2 (rom memory) which would make it March of '72 you would not think a 73 engine would normally be in there.
So, VIN pad removal might have been done to obscure the real VIN number of the bike.
