So it turns out that all of the inner cam gear bushings are loose and slide right out. Two of them are pretty wobbly. I dont understand how or why they would be so wobbly.

The outer bushings are also not with the slot facing up, but they are at least tight in there. I wonder if someone previously installed them incorrectly and they weren't getting oiled.

Those bushings are $30 each. What a bummer.

This is the way the bushings are configured originally in the cover.

The FSM says, when replacing the bushings, there is no certain way the slots should face with the small bushings.
Although it's debated whether that's actually an issue.

The inner bushings are a press fit. They should be tight like the ones in the cover.
Chances are, the case bores are wider than they should be now.
You may get a standard bushing back in there or may not.
I'd mic the bores to see if they are all the same I.D.

These are cylinders but the process is the same.
Just using calipers won't be as accurate.



If one or more are compromised, chances are the bores won't the same size.
If this is the case, try and find some oversized bushings.
There may be oversized ones out there still for a Sporty but I don't think so.
Try McMaster-Carr or someplace like that.

But, then again, you haven't seen the inside of the case yet.........

yep, mr. hippy, that was a GOOD discussion with a lot of info +.
now there are some things to consider and whether they can be applied or not.
new cover or case
custom bushings
conversion to torringtons
swedged bushings. a process where the bushing is expanded to fit the bore and then sized.
it seems the ole iron with pinned bushings has some merits

Yeah there has been a lot of good discussion and information here. You guys have helped me out and I appreciate it.
