Default Allegheny National Park

For the first time since I’ve been a forum member there will be no east coast meet & greet this year. Bummer!

This spring I made a mid week trip down to the Red Bridge Campground in the Allegheny National Forest and had a great time riding around the area. The campground was awesome. The campsites are clean, quiet, and private.

I now have another reservation to return on Monday the 13th to Thursday the 16th of September. Currently (as of July 13) there are a few tent sites, camper sites w/ac and a couple of small cabins still available for those dates in case anybody else is interested.

My reservation allows up to four people & two cars on my site and I have offered spots to a couple of members for their tents if they are able to get out and join me.
I use a senior pass that I purchased back when I turned 62 when it was still cheap and it cost me $59.00 to stay for the three nights.
So any interest?

Mick, pending settlement with Progressive, and surgical schedulings I’m really ready to get out of town. This sounds good!

Mick,
I'm going to keep an eye on this thread - Please keep it up to date if your plans change...

I'm interested in riding in that area and staying overnight. Then riding across Rt6 east to stay overnight. Then visit Bill's Bike Barn Museum at Berwick (Rt80 east of Bloomsburg) before heading home... I'll be looking to make it a 3-day trip with a few stops along the way at interesting sites, so I won't be racing over the territory.

Your Mon-Thu schedule is better for me to make it there for one of those nights... I hope the weather stays dry...

I'd be riding west of Harrisburg, then turning north toward Dubois... I want to revisit the Kinzua Bridge site (I was there before it blew down)...

Just a bump on this thread to see if others are available to make this a gathering...

I'll still be looking at the weather the week beforehand to determine if I'm going to make some reservation (it'll be a hotel - my camping days are long gone).

My sleeping on the ground in a tent days are also over. The little trailer lets me sleep warm and dry.
You were welcome to camp at my site.
Looking forward to following you for some miles.

Mick, did you mean following ME? That's not my normal territory, but I usually create a plan for riding to specific places on specific road. I'll be doing that for this trip as well.

So, I can put together a 150-200mi ride for the day I'm there if that's what you meant.

If the weather holds for that week, I'll probably get there Monday evening, ride the area on Tuesday (wherever the group wants to ride), then be off on Wednesday morning for the rest of my trip across Rt6.

Mick, I just booked a room at the Days Inn, for the 13th, 14th & 15th, with 2 double beds, in Warren PA. Any one want to share the room? As usual, this depends on the weather, but I like the area & it'll be good to see you again. I also have the old farts pass.

FYI:
what I remember about the city of Warren was that after riding thru it twice my sense of smell died. There is still oil being pumped and collected in the area and most small city’s in the area still have working refineries cracking the local crude. There is oil history all over as that area was where oil was first pumped in the US.

The smelly parts of Warren are near the river by routes 62 and 6. Depends on the wind. The rest of the town is fine.
Wild Hogs BBQ on 6 just down the road from Warren is a good eat outside lunch.

Just thought you might want to know.
