I wonder when Andrews is going to EOL the Ironhead trans?
That is/was $100 off the gears alone! but includes the shafts?
I should buy one for inventory.

Looking at eBay I see gearsets with no shafts for $500!

Has Andrews dumped closeout inventory?

As I remember the gears were ~$100 each except the clutch gear that was more.....?

Don't know for sure but I don't think that gear set comes with shafts. Most listings I've seen with that part # (250301) say that shafts need to be ordered separately, even though the picture shows shafts.

Some eBay trickery there, aren't there rules that the pic must be of the actual auction item?

Marketers are worse than lawyers......

I know people use different terms for the same thing which can confuse those of us who don't have much experience with these trans. Don't Andrews make all the gears and shafts including the clutch gear?

yes/no they don't make all the gears or the clutch gear for the early 900 models.the o.p.started talking about his clutch gear then used the term Andrews gear.which is why asked to be more specific.

No, Andrews is not dumping inventory and yes, the prices are confusing if you aren't regularly in market.

The part number quoted (250301) is the Andrews part number and no matter what the pictures say -- it is ONLY the gears. The only trickery is people believing a picture is what they are getting. Don't blame "marketers" if you order by pictures and not by part number. Andrews' catalogs are easily downloaded so you can check exactly what you're ordering.

As to prices; over the past three years a decent percentage of Andrews gears are now sold through V twin dealers. Those dealers must maintain a minimum price and many of them are simple drop shippers. This means the seller never has the part -- it comes straight from the V twin warehouse to your door and they collect the bucks. Most of these dealers now use Amazon as often as Fleabay as their "storefront." Recent changes to fleabay means we'll see more and more of these "dumps" via Amazon.

I've bought three full andrews transmissions in the last year through a buddy who is a V twin dealer. DEALER cost is around $65-70 per gear . . .times 8 gears. So, if you see a set of all 8 advertised for less than about $550 -- be afraid. Something wonky is going on. Indeed, there was a delay of three weeks on my order of 900 mainshafts; but everything else shipped same day as ordered.

Andrews does not make 4th gear sets for pre-71 sportsters.

Andrews does not make mainshafts for 67-70 electric start.

Andrews does make 900 mainshafts for kick only dry clutch bikes through 1969 (part 258080).

Andrews does make 1000 mainshafts for 1971 up wet clutch bikes (part 258120)

Andrews does make countershafts for all years (part 259010)

71up 4th gear sets (you must buy sets) can be custom ground to run in 900 dry clutch set ups. You must do three things: 1) grind the OD of 4 gear ms; 2) make up a .190 dead parallel flat spacer for under the clutch hub nut; and 3) install a seal in the clutch hub nut. All can be done in a 10" lathe with a tool post grinder. If you don't have those machine tools or your own surface grinder and that description goes over your head -- you shouldn't be thinking of custom grinding gears anyways.

Andrews sells both standard and c ratio 4th gear sets for 71 up. I did one c ratio conversion last year for my 64CH and will be installing one this weekend on a 1960 stroker.

Be sure to support the bearing center when pressing in/out the gear -- do not rely on the retaining ring to keep the bearing from moving.
