Default What's that about then.

Needed to replace gear change shaft oil seal after fitting new clutch plates. The casing was stamped with part number followed by 04 like the rest of the bike...it is an 04 after all. Got a new seal from Vtwinmania and it's too small OSD. It has the correct part number on it and all the parts diagrams quote it. Mine seems to be fitted with a later sized seal which is larger. I know some vehicle factories use last model casings if they fit newer model to use up surplus stock. But as mine is stamped 04 this can't be the case. Has anyone come across this before. Thanks

From experience in 2006 the shifter shaft grew in diameter, as did the appropriate seal. Are you the original Owner?

Maybe combine the '04 Seal on the shaft with thin o-rings on the outside of the seal?

Very confused. Yes it was already fitted and never leaked. Correct part number seal was too small OSD right ISD. (starting to sound like frikkin Goldylocks story) The new one sent for next year up fits OSD but not tight and ISD is bigger.

The thread would get more attention if named appropriately.

Depending on your location, The easiest solution may be to go to a local bearing supply house (a business that’s specialised in the sales of bearings and seals. They will measure and match your old seal (or go by O.D and I.D ) and sell you a seal.

I have looked into that but they only sell 12x22x5mm ones .

Someone on another forum said they installed the '06 seal (large ID) onto the shaft first, mounting it into the primary cover cavity - and then ALSO INSTALLED the '04 seal (Small ID) on the shaft, atop the other one. Then sliced the rubber washer in half (like a bagel) and used that washer to make a tight fit between the Shifter Arm and the sequential seals.

The correct solution is to replace the cover with one designed for the '04-'05 models (with the smaller shifter shaft). But it seems you should be able to get a reasonable seal here with a little adaptation...

Maybe go to the dealer and see what a factory seal is compared to this one from Vtwinmania? Just reading the name that has "mania" in it would send me to the dealer for a reality check.
