here is how he did it... painted it on glass....

I made some changes to the original design for myself and sized it up to what I wanted. Tattooed that on in 3 sittings and I was good to go.

some excellent samples of work and portfolios to get ideas...
you can practice (once you get off glass) on toilet seats, tool boxes, light switch plates, etc. You can also sell them for some extra cash for nicer brushes.

Late 87-883 Hugger/1380cc (84") conversion. Too many cool parts to list. Built engine on a fresh set of cases, so conversion might not really describe it. Estimated near 115 hp.
Early 87-883/1200 conversion. Wife's bike. SE heads, 1200 flat pistons, 40" Drag Pipes, everything else stock.

Here is a very exaggerated sample of poor work... not bad for a beginner but if they would have started with the small steps like I explained earlier, they would have been much better off.
As a more experienced striper, a few things that I notice immediately is...
-the right side is larger than the left. non symmetrical.
-the ends of the lines are very sloppy, and most are too wet.
-the striper didnt load the brush properly and had to lift the brush and reload in many areas.
-when they are making the curves, they aren't rolling the brush in their fingers. they are just turning their hand. that's why the lines arent consistent.

That was done back in 95. Kid named Matt Willoughby from Youngstown, Ohio. Hot Rod Bikes magazine had a show in Cleveland and I saw Matt working, knew right away he was the right one.
I took a trophy home too, 2nd in the race bike class. ;-)
I see in your other thread you have done some racing. Cool. Check my gallery. We got a little in common.

Oh and one more huge thing I had to learn the hard way...
the most dominant color should NEVER EVER EVER EVER be painted on top of by any of the other colors....
see my tattoo for an idea of what Im trying to say. Black is obviously the strong color, and it jumps out. If pink were to be on top of the black, it would break up the black's movement and strength. It really disrupts the entire piece.
