Default 83 xlx

Anyone give me the good and bad on XLX, from what I can gather should be black, solo seat, black bars. So is it just cosmetic or any other difference. Any thought on price

Here's a brochure I scanned a few years ago.

I've had mine for 29 years and it's been a great bike. Very few problems, but I've taken care of it and haven't screwed it up. One in good condition that's still close to stock should sell for a bit more than the same year XLH, but price really depends on where you live. Here's mine (slightly modified from stock)...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (especially if you don't know what you're doing). Most Sportster problems are owner-induced.

Thanks 83 XLX for brochure, only wish this looked that good, changes paint, exhaust, bars for sure. Has Bendix-Zenith carb. May go take a look tomorrow. Any thoughts on value, asking 1800.00

If it starts and runs ok without making any bad noises (but Ironheads are pretty noisy engines to start with) and has the proper paperwork, that's probably a decent price. Just keep a mental note of everything you will need to replace and add it up in your head - things like tires, battery, missing parts, new paint, chain, etc. If the total is higher than what you could get a nicer bike for, I'd keep looking.

Thanks to both 83XLX and NLXL, am going to take a look, see what it needs to get in close to original. If it start rides and stops, may bring it home.
