Default Danmoto Highwayman

I have an '86 883 with hammer 1250 conversion. It currently has drag pipes on it that sound terrible and have a bad sag in the midrange. I want to swap to a 2-1 pipe and love the look of the Danmoto Highwayman and the price is right.

My question is, there are 2 versions of this pipe... one fits up to 2003, and one 2004+. The problem is, I prefer the shorter look of the 2004+ pipe.

Has anyone ran the rubber mount pipe on a solid mount bike? I assume that they might interfere with the master cylinder.

I'm not afraid to do significant fabrication if required.

I looked into the Danmoto. There are several examples of the Danmoto short system on rigid mount bikes on YouTube. A muffler mount needs to be fabricated.

There is a video of the long Danmoto systems on a rigid mount, and with forward controls, the installer had to crush the pipe to clear the brake rod.

According to Hammer dyno testing. The short Danmoto worked almost as well as the Patriot defender. They had an early system that cracked, but that doesn't seem to be an issue now.

I bought another system (a used supermeg) because I wanted heat shields. After reading the Hammer test, the Danmoto makes more power through the whole pull. I didn't see a Hammer test of the long system.

You could easily hurt a good working system with mods (or possible improve if you can test the changes)

resize the pictures and delete and repost, easy to do
as for as the rubber on rigid, that is what i ride. you have to make your own bracket though but easy enough. make it in two pieces, frame and pipe) make slotted holes in both and fit to machine, tighten bolts and weld together(off machine, stray current can damage electronics). my is in my 01 sport. with the way my machine is setup, big boost in 5k+ department.

Thanks guys for confirming what I was thinking. I'll go ahead and order the short rubber mount pipe and make a bracket.

Might look at that again. Sure seems to read like it only " worked almost as well" when run un-baffled and REALLY LOUD..

The Danmoto sytem is cheap enough I've thought about getting one and using just the head pipes and collector with a SuperTrapp muffler. Might be interesting. Could make power without a lot of noise.

There was an "unbranded" Danmoto for even less on eBay. (Around $230 shipped) i came close and then the supermeg popped up on craigslist.

Somewhere on this site, there is an exhaust thread where a member fabricates a "pyramid cheese grater" baffle for his pipe (not a danmoto) and has very good results.
