You should avoid such a combo, 23/46 is dividable to a equal number,
wich means the chain will hit the same spots on the sprockets all the time.

Makes for uneven wear on the chain in no time.

I used 23/47, worked well...

I used 23/47, worked well...


I’ve been running 24/48 on my FX stroker since 1993. i never noticed any abnormal wear on chain or sprockets.

doesent change the fact that such combination is best avoided, this is enginering 1.0...

I have tried the 23/46 a year,but did not felt enough healthy the take offs for the engine.If would be possible to change the first gear ratio,then would be just fine.I have the early 86 gearing.Now running 23/48.

So I double checked my rear sprocket and I actually have a 23/44 set up...without a tach and just setting my rev limiter at 4K it was right around 80 mph.

Mines a 1200 conversion...I have a ‘86 motor on the stand but my bike is an ‘88 and the transmission is a mixture of both. Both motors were 883’s though.

Fun fact:
The 86-90 rear motor mount is part number (16203-82A).

The 82-83 rear mount was part number (16203-82) and replaced by (16203-82A) in 1984.
So the (16203-82A) part number is a replacement mount for 82-90 models.

-82 looks to be cast while the -82A looks to be more of a billet material.

I have a question.
The IH aluminum mounts have a tendency for cracking.
Is this the same on 86-90 models?
