Default cv carbs

i have an 81 iron head have had carb issues since i got it so i figure ill get a new one well looking on ebayi find one says its from an 81 so i bid on it well i notice no one else is so i really start looking at it and realize its a cv well question is will it work on my iron head or will it be too much for it i have drag pipes so right there i would have had to jet the old one.i know ill have to get a manifold adapter but otherwise will it be ok??

Be best to post this in the Ironhead section.
I only know a small bit of Ironhead carb history
1966 Tillotson diaphragm carb
1972 Bendix/Zenith carb
1981 AMF buyback...what carb was used?

The EVO history is
1986 34 mm Keihin
1988 40 mm Keihn CV, no accelerator pump
1988 40 mm Keihn CV, with accelerator pump

So, what carb was on your bike?
I would not be concerned about too much carb, but will it fit the intake manifold or will a new manifold or adapter be needed, etc.

If it truly is a CV carburetor from a Harley then it is plenty suitable for your Ironhead. You will need to adapt the slip/spigot style carb to your flange style manifold using an adapter, plus you need to make or find a bracket to hold the carb in place. Beware of some carburetors referred to as "CV" on ebay. You could inadvertently end up with a carburetor made for another model (Kawasaki or similar). Also avoid any CV carburetor that does not have the accelerator pump which was only made in 1988. Later model Harley CV's are the best candidates.
