After an hour at highway speeds it becomes rediculous without a windshield. It multiplies your ability to do distance riding exponetially. True story, I was riding through the desert a couple months ago and was hit in the face just under the right eye with what I think was a sea urchin. My eye started watering and cheek started swelling. When I glanced in my mirror I saw Sfxtech (another member from Vegas) happily enjoying his windshield. Bastard. By the time we got home I had a welt on my cheek and was totaly covered in bugs from my glasses down to my ribs. Sfxtech had a dirty windshield.

I've got a quick detach and use it when I ride long distances. The only reason I don't use it more is because it adds a little vibration to the ride and I like feeling the wind. Using it makes the ride a lot quieter and gives my neck a rest. I wear a 3/4 helmet that can act like a parachute at high speeds. Other people's opinion of my windshield makes absolutely no difference to me.

Have the quick detach and ride w/ it most of the time and bought the bike for me and not for others. Don't really experience any buffeting and my helmet doesn't get pulled off of my head. Also makes long freeway rides more enjoyable as I am not holding on to the handlebars w/ the wind in my chest. To each is own.
Ride with or without but just get out and ride, have fun, and be safe.

I think they don't look so hot on a Sporty, but I really enjoy mine. Detachable HD style for the auxiliary-headlights. No buffeting. Oddly enough, mine will probably come OFF during the months I wear a full-face helmet. I'm 48y.o. and a windshield makes all rides (regardless of speed) much more enjoyable.

Only care about how my bike looks from my seat. Have a QD and it lives on the bike. Did a 400+ mile round trip to Santa Cruz last week and it was a breeze, even coming down Highway 1 just south of Carmel (winds off the ocean there are a constant 30-40 mph or so). Did the same ride before without the windshield and it was so awful I was ready to stop, push the bike over the cliff, and hitchhike home. With the QD, I can go anywhere, anytime.

For local riding around I like the look of my bike without the windshield. But any other riding more than 40miles I use my memphis shade slims clear detachable. I rode the first year and 5000 miles without one and I wont go on the rode without it on my bike now.
