Default ‘79-81’ rear wheel offset or spacing ing issue?

Hi, I’m putting my 81 back together at the minute and have it all bolted up. When I stepped back it was very very obvious that the rear wheel is offset to the right. I’ve checked the spacers and the order of things against the manual and can’t see anything out of place. Is the wheel meant to be offset noticeably?

Thanks

Andy

Often swing arms are bent or the rear seat mounts are bent. Gives the illusion the wheel is offset.

OK. IS the wheel offset to the frame or just offset to the rear fender ?

The front and rear wheels need to be in line for the whole plot to work.

Remove the tank and seat and rear fender. String line from the neck casting CL back through the rear wheel center line. Any offset will be apparent.

but you might wan to check order of assembly of the related rear wheel components first.

We are talking stock frame and swing arm and not a custom rigid job, right ?

Lots of potential variations on a 39 year old bike. Is your rear sprocket original ?
A po may have replaced it and the offset may be different.
Are your front and rear sprockets in alignment at the current assembly state ?

As long as your sprockets are in line, and your tire is tracking straight, it ( the tire ) can be slightly offset and still be fine.

Hi,

I have an 81. It's been a few year's since I had my rear wheel respoked. If memory serves me correct the hub is handed & needs to be put back together with the correct side for the sprocket & the disc.
