Default Rear lights

2007 883

Recently, I tried to relocate turn signals, so I can add saddlebags. Also to ADD a pair of brake and running lights.

I couldn't figure out the electrical connector inside the tail light. So, I ended up making a custom mount and putting the original turn signals on the license plate frame. With original wires and plugs.

How to you add lights to the terminal strip? I couldn't find crimp-on connectors that small.

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on the rear lights circuit board:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t..._license_light

It is really a distribution board and does not have any electronics intervening in the incoming signals reaching the rear lights.

Here's Ronnie's parts list:

Item#14 - 73191-96 - SOCKET TERMINAL, 16-20 GAUGE (AS REQUIRED)

Thank you! I couldn't figure out the innards of that connection board.

I guess that if I get a few of Ronnie's connectors (thanks again) I can splice and light

If you are redesigning the rear light arrangement completely, it is possible to eliminate the circuit board entirely and splice together the incoming wires to the light fixtures you are using... Of course, you could also eliminate the circuit board and create your own connectors instead, if that works better...

If you are keeping the circuit board, then you can simply put the right terminals on the ends of your wires to plug in to the board...

Good Luck...

I wanted to add dual filament brake/running bullet lights (already bought), once I get the right plug-in connector, I will proceed
I like LOTS of light on the back.

There is actually a spare 3 pin socket on the tail light circuit board (top left corner in the Sportsterpedia image) which I used to power some LED bolts on my homemade license plate holder. You can buy the correct plug for that socket and the crimp terminals for it at your dealer for a few cents.

Ahhhh. Yes I used VOM to figure out what terminals are what. My crimp connectors are too big to fit 3 across in that upper left socket. Good to know I could get the proper plug.

I actually brought my wires with me and the service department crimped the terminals on them for free.
