Sorry Mike - I missed your reply. Forgive me, I am old.

That's one of the reasons why so many CH's wound up with the "wrong" regulator on there. Externally it's almost impossible to pick the 74510-59 from the 74510-47A, which is a very common reg.

However, Delco did stamp each regulator with a number so they can be identified as a Delco part. Somewhere I have the specifications from Delco on these numbers and the specs which tells you what they are and what they are set to at the factory.

They can be altered if you know how and I believe it involves bending a meatl arm so kind of "hit and miss' but I've never tried to do that myself.

The Delco stamped number is only 3 or 4 digits from memory - like 167 or such.

I'll try to have a look for the Delco notes/specs if I get time today.

There is a -47 part and a -47A.

The one for early Sportsters is small and square. Cover has two screws holding it on.

Lots of people advertise the reg they are trying to sell as a 74510-47 and one of the problems with that is the HD part number actually covers two different regulators.

The Delco part number 1118794 is used on 57-60XL's and XLH'S. It's a little larger than the 1118307 found on the K Models.

For the mag equipped bikes you really need the Delco part 1118989 which looks just like the 74510-47A.

These regs CAN be adjusted for both current and voltage but the procedure is so onerous I would never try it.

Delco themselves will advise you that the biggest problem encountered ios simply burnt points. Which can be rectified with a nail file and a bit of patience. But I suspect doing so will effect the output. So you might need tyo go through the adjusting procedure.

Aha ! Mike - that is the external number you have to look for. Last three digits of the Delco number is stamped on them.

So you look for a "989" on them.

OK - JW Boon has one NOS but he wants 200 Eoro's for it. ($235 plus shipping from there)

And he won't sell it to me. (Or anyone else outside of Europe)
