I can't say I would enjoy a USMC tent, though sounds like an option. How small does it pack? The one I used in Boot seemed heavy at the time. That looks more modern. Never thought about a surplus store.

I was inspired to put up my four man this weekend and check it over, it is in real good shape still, but too big and heavy for the bike IMHO, but if the wife brings along the Suburban, it's an option instead of a Hotel/Motel. When it cools down a bit, I was planning on taking the grandkids camping/fishing. It was about, 110°F heat index here this weekend (95°F). Friday me and the wife cut the grass around the house. Saturday I trimmed the lower limbs off a bunch of trees, my neighbor came over to tell me it was too hot to work outside, with warnings. I reminded him only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun and I was not an Englishman.

Good luck on your travels!

We were out on the bike today in Italy and it is hot. I need to rethink my Kevlar jeans and leather jacket.

I always wear a safety green mesh jacket in hot weather. It's cooler than just a tee shirt. Keeps the sun off, it's like riding in the shade.

The tent is in the bag that's right down on the passenger seat. It was made by Diamond Brand, which is a division of Eureka, and Eureka has stated that when they were developing it, they leaned a lot which could translate to their Civilian tents.

My previous tent was an REI two man tent and the Marine tent is superior in almost all aspects. The one big area that it isn't is weight. The rain fly is extremely tough and durable, which means that it's heavy. The bike doesn't notice the extra weight, so that doesn't bother me. The tent is easy to put up, takes a lot of abuse and just plain works. If something were to happen to it, I'd buy another just like it.
