This is where she is.




I have 98% of the harness loose and ready to come off. But first I need to identify a couple of things. Underneath the positive battery cable lug of the starter is a 3 pin harness. Its bolted to the case.



As you can see, its between the breather hose and trans pulley. What is its function.

Next is a wire between case and trans pulley. At about 2 O'clock. It dives under engine and joins the harness from regulator and travels to what appears to be main harness. Again, what is its function?




As far as removing the engine, I wonder what is a good sequence for pulling bolts out of mounts to avoid breakage. I assume the upper mount between cylinders would be first. Then I suspect the front head mount near forks would be next. That leaves the lower mounts. It seems that if the rear mount is loosened or even remove bolts, then the lower fronts could be removed. My concern is cracking the case at rear mounts.

Sorry, people. I had to go elsewhere for wire harness questions. For those who didnt know yet still curious...the 3 pin wire at rear of trans is speedo. I had thought that myself. The single wire behind pulley is neutral light.

Moving on.

Pulled motor today. I used a engine hoist or cherry picker if you will. That method leaves a bit to be desired. I could only use 1 fold down leg of the hoist due to lift mechinism. A bit of a 3 legged dog but not an issue. The suggestion( in Sportsterpedia) of pulling rear rocker box was indeed correct. Would have been easier but considering the amount of sub-assemblies already yanked, I didnt want more shit laying around to get lost/scattered/covered in dog hair.

Last pic shows rubber frame bumper under the engine. She aint stickin to frame no more. Are these available new ?

Rear hub is a mess. Axle a bit funky too.

Better rear wheel. Powder coated "anodized silver".
Chain installed. Rear fender/strut next
