I've started the axle modifications. The right side is done. I welded to add some metal and then turned it on the lathe. I now have a matching dimension from the 7/16" hole to the edge of the shoulder. Left side next.

before any work

after welding and machining

new comparison

I finished the axle today . . fingers crossed. Now the real fun begins . . making spacers to center the hub, then lacing the wheel, etc.

Spacer made for the left side. right now the right side is mostly washers, figuring what I need to make for the right. As it sits, with the axle torqued, there is about .025 difference side to side in relation to the rotor. The second pic shows the calipers I will be using.

The spacers are done, just finished the left side. I'm within .010 side to side . I'm happy. I will be spacing the rotors out, ordered some spacers for that. I'm starting to build the wheel now, waiting on spokes. But I have a question as well. I would like to run a fork brace . .BUT . I have 39mm Forks, mid glide distance and a 16" wheel/tire. Pretty sure no one makes this as an available item. Are there any adjustable braces out there ? Anyone make their own?

If you're using H-D Sportster mid-glide triple clamps, i.e. standard factory spacing, Superbrace has a series that will fit. Check their site.

Thanks, I will check them. When I see a mid glide, so far it's been for the larger fork tubes.

I finally got to the wheel and getting it built. Radial and lateral run out are both below .018 . . . so I'm good. I bought two 3/8 rotor spacers to set the rotors out wider. I'm waiting on the 1 1/4" bolts to show up. I think this will put the rotors right about where I want them with the calipers I'm using.
