JW Bradbury
----------------------------------------------------------------

What began as a school age radio hobby for J.W., has grown into a lifelong career as a veteran broadcaster. With his initial training at the prestigious Defense Information School, his early broadcasting days were spent in the U.S. Air Force as a part of the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.

In the early '70s, J.W. began working on the air at stations in Southern California, and started as a staff announcer for advertising agencies throughout the region. Since that time, he has covered the spectrum of voice over work, from simple “legal” tags on radio and TV spots, to helping with the creation of station imagers and identifiers, as well as countless commercials. His talents have included the narration of audiovisual productions for television and international trade show events. Today, in addition to his voice over work, he is an on-air announcer and senior producer for the American Forces Radio Network.

J.W.’s national clients have included major firms such as McDonnell-Douglas and IBM Corporation. On a U.S. regional level, he has been the voice for consumer-oriented productions for companies such as Florida Light & Power, the California Medical Association, and Wisconsin Energy Corporation. In Southern California, J.W. has voiced hundreds of radio and TV commercials for clients ranging in size from small stores to major auto dealerships and manufacturing companies.

It really hit me hard to see the news of JW tonight as I was just thinking of him today...one of his last posts a couple of days ago was him explaining the reason we hadn't heard from him in awhile was because of a small heart problem he had experienced. I was going to PM and ask how he was doing and I now feel remorseful that I didn't.

Like others, I made friends with JW without ever having met him...we PM'ed regularly...he was contemplating getting an touring model, so we PM'ed about all the pros and cons of my electra glide. We were both in Vietnam at the same time and pm'ed back and forth about those days.

He sure loved his family...he told of how proud he was of his sons who are attending college and finding vehicles for them to drive.

Do take time to read his posts and you'll see what a straight up good guy he is...I say IS because I know he's somewhere being as good there as he was here.

If your family reads this memorial, JW, they will know how you touched many of us here, myself included for sure! I hope they find solace that we found you to be a very honorable man that gave us good advice, laughs, and great company!

Grab the bike of your choice up there, JW, and I'll be up someday to ride with you!

I was lucky enough to get to hear Mr. Bradbury on the radio here at work and we never actually "talked" until we met in the XL forum. I was excited to find him in the forum and enjoyed reading his posts. I really thought it was cool to find him in here and find out that we worked basically for the same company, just different locations.

Below is the last message he sent me. We'll truly miss you! David

FW: combat camera

Do you still work in the media? David

Yo David...

Even better... you've probably heard me. I'm "the" J.W. Bradbury that does the Sports Pages for AFRTS that you hear on your morning Voice Channel, or you'll hear me anchoring the news breakaways for the SECDEF or Presidential news things. I also voice a lot of our liners and imagers on both the radio and TV sides of the house.

I do the "overnights" here in So-CAL, but that puts me into the morning drive slot for you guys and on over towards the guys in Iraq. I don't mind the shift because it's essentially a much larger audience than the other guys have.

I took a GS-12 position in the AFRTS News and Sports Division when the Combat Camera unit shut down here on the West Coast. I joined them about 11 years ago, back when the Broadcast Center was in Sun Valley. We're now at March ARB in Riverside.

I ride my '92 Hugger to work most of the days it's not raining, so I get a lot of use out of my Sporty.... hell, at almost 50mpg, it beats the hell out of using my van.

Tell the group at your station that I sent my "howdy" along to them. Be sure to give us a call at the B.C. anytime you guys have a problem or need a refeed.

Talk with you later....

Ride safe... With fists in the wind....

J.W.
