I agree the music plays on, but they, unfortunately will never be able to experience a Dead show. Try to explain that part of the experience to them.

F.W.I.W. I did see Janis in concert in Kansas City back when I was stationed in Topeka. An incredible performance if memory serves me right, if a little foggy!

i have seen many performers before they were even known.
does one have to be in a concert to experience the high for lack of a better word?
naw, but if you like all the crowding and yelling that takes away from the music, go for it. i can jam in my own house and experience the same.
take a look at jimi, when he was onstage, and into the groove, he closed his eyes and blotted out every thing else. can you play better with your eyes close, well heck yea!!
you are into the groove and inhibitions are gone. the beatles used to play methodically till one concert, john just let go (maybe high) and the others followed his lead and the people loved it, their music changed.
sure, never been to a grateful dead concert but i can jam out to the music and still come out on top.
have you ever hit your hand with a hammer?? you experienced the pain??? can you tell others about it??? why sure but will they feel your pain if they do it to themselves??? well, huuummmm, naw, they will experience their own.

Well said Bustert. Excellent explanation of the perspective of the other side of the coin.
