I think that the Crown Vic has a transmission which specifies the use of Mercon V. In which case, Mercon V is what you are suppose to use.

I have been using Mercon V in my primary case.

from memory 90w gear oil=sae 50w motor oil.i'm still not comfortable with that.have you smelled 90w gear oil?it's nothing like 50w motor oil.
