Looks like the carb/aircleaner and manifold support took a shot from an impact or crash. Probably when the manifold itself was bent. Intake leaks from damaged misaligned parts compensated for with huge jets.

That looks like a bracket for the BTs - Their cylinders are wider apart...

The same type bracket is available for the Sportsters with the right spacing...

I came to the same conclusion... PO bought the wrong part and bent/twisted it to make it fit. Kind of.

Local swap meet tomorrow. The bracket and breather bolts are on my list. I need them in order to mount the carb so I can adjust/torque the manifold without binding/stressing everything.

I like it, a nice logical order to things.
