Regulator test 1974 xl
Hey guys, my generator light stays on. I have read the post about checking the charging system on the stickies, and for the regulator test it says to connect an ohmmeter to the orange and tan wires. The problem is that my wiring is not stock, it was made by someone else and it doesnt have the same colors. I took a picture from the regulator, does anybody know wich are the wires that I have to use for the test? thanks

Top to bottom should be field, armature, and battery. So, middle and bottom terminals.

First thing to check for is a grounded generator indicator light. Remove all wires from regulator GEN terminal and keep wires away from grounding. Turn ignition on and if the light is on then the gen light is grounded. Refer to FSM page. 5-23

Hey guys
I havent had the chance to test the charging system yet, but I forgot to mention something that could potentially be the reason why the battery is not getting charged.
I damaged my solenoid pretty bad while I was putting the bike back together, I was able to glue the stuff that got broken and it seemed to be working, but I couldnt really tight the positive battery cable, its just finger tight in there so I didnt break the conection again... what do you guys think?
Im also charging the battery to night to have it fully charged for tomorrow, Im using a battery charger that I borrowed and I think I set it up correctly but Im not a 100% sure If you guys could take a look it would be great, here are some pictures of how the solenoid was damage (Im ordering a new one) and of the battery charger:

So you know you need to replace the solenoid. The battery charger is set for 12v and 10 amps. The display shows 2.4 amps so I assume the charger is scaling back as the battery charges. Make sure the battery is not getting hot. The solenoid has several parts and different functions inside so please replace it. Any hand tight connections need to be made tight.
