I'm going to take a look at the factory oil tank,, see if there's an atmosphere vent on it. If there's not I'll run like this and see what happens,, of there is I'll think of something.

Yep. Not worried about popping crappy glued seams in a plastic tank.
I looked at the factory tank,, nipples for feed, return, vent, and drain. None of those lines were vented to the atmosphere from the factory,, there's no odd contraption to vent the tank to the atmosphere that I can see,, and I don't recall the cap/dipstick being vented. I actually recall the damn thing sealing very tightly and being a pain in the ass to remove.

Now I just need the chainguard to dry so I can get it hung on there,, probably should adjust the chain a bit too.

Ok, sorry, I'm still confused. So you're running an after market oil tank? And it's vented to atmosphere? All I know is that the cam chest and heads share the same air.....

Not trying to confuse. Yes,, I have an aftermarket oil tank. I have a 3 connections on it. Feed, return, and vent... Same as a factory tank,, except no drain.

A factory tank (to the best of my knowledge,, looking at the manual now) is not vented to the atmosphere, my tank is not vented to the atmosphere.

On a factory tank, the vent line from the cam chest hooks directly into the tank. On my setup, the vent line from the cam chest hooks directly into the tank.

On a factory setup the vent from the heads blows into the throttle body.
Aftermarket most folks vent to free air,, I vented to an existing "vent" line,, how it works or why it works or hell,, even if it works,, I dunno,, but if it's okay as a vent for the bottom end,, I don't see why it shouldn't work for the top too.

Ok, here's the deal, If the oil tank is air tight and vents to the cam chest and you run the head vents into that line, where does the blow by air go? It never leaves the inside of the motor until it builds enough pressure to leak past gaskets or maybe the oil tank cap. I might be wrong though.

...and what was Harley R&D thinking with the cam chest vent line, when it's not really venting anything?? ?
