Paucgho with baffles. Had 40 inch open drags. Added Krome werks baffles. Failed inspection. Went to the Paucgho. doesn't take long to swap back and forth.

I run the stock exhaust on my 883 and love the sound. I bought my 1200 with 2" straight pipes and am in the process of making baffles with 2 diversion plugs... they're just obnoxiously loud and I want to help correct some of the drag pipe sag until I can weld up a good 2-1 system.

i'm running an open 2-1 on older V&H headers with a straight stainless tube. looking into getting something new this year. can't decide atm between cone engineering 2-1 deconstructed kit or the ryca box. leaning more towards the cone.

2004 1200 conversion Custom.
Stock exhaust.

How much HP and Torque will I lose if I cut the taper and just remove the baffles?
Probably a waste of time and effort, but sure is cheap.

I'm beginning to like the torque the 1200cc conversion adds, seems a waste to remove the baffles and there-by, neuter the conversion.

Just how restrictive are the stock pipes anyways?

My 1200cc Breathes fine, even over 5000 rpms with the stock exhaust and stock cams.
Cannot be too restrictive from 3,000 to 4000 rpms, can it?

It would breathe even easier if I had left it an 883. (Less intake and exhaust with every stroke)

I realize you can hear and even perceive an increase when you install 2 into one headers, but, for normal cruising and everyday traffic, HP and torque will be close to the same without the added cost of installing and tuning.

Not quite sold on the need for excessive volume.
Some pipes do sound nice though.
Some are pleasing to the ear.

Stock is a bit on the quiet side, but when you apply the torque of the engine, you don't want to broadcast your infraction over five city blocks, do you?

When a year ago the dealer was trying to convince me to send a green light to a 1200 conversion (that with the SE heads, midrange cams, and the throttle body of 58 mm)... he said that i could even keep the stock cat mufflers without concern if i disliked the louder noise, but that i would have lost from 5 to 10 hp...

P.S.
i said to him that IMHO open a new engine who sounds like an harp... is to me worse than a blasphemy...
