Default 2016 Brake Pad Change

I have been looking all night and I can't seem to find any information about changing the rear pads on a `14 up Sportster. I have some horrible noise when coming to a stop using the rear brake.

I have found a lot of information about the older rear caliper and the removal of the one pin, but nothing that pertains to the updated rear caliper.

Am I missing it?

One pin, remove it, take the spring out, the pads come out, put the new pads in and replace the pin. Took five minutes. I was impressed.

According to your signature you own a 2016 Iron...

I have the same thougth about changing the rear pads... once warranty will be expired... no example on the net... apart few very short ones...

anyway FSM says you have to remove the rear left shock to remove the caliper... and then the pads... the pads will no be released without removing the caliper...

how did you do this operation?

I own a `16 Iron. The brake design was changed in `14, thus the "`14 up" comment.

When I was giving it the cursory look before I began, I was really thinking the rear left shock would have to come off.

It did not. I will try and get some pictures up this afternoon, because it truly was a five minute process to drop the pads in. I didn't even have to take my swing arm bag off.


It is worth noting this is a US spec bike without ABS, so it might not be universal.

Still i have to know where did the pads drop out... on mine the swingarm prevents any way out... let alone room to compress the pistons... and for that reason you have to remove the caliper... ergo remove the left shock...

I use the term drop out, but they infact come out the top, after the spring is removed. The Spring is in the first picture. The pistons can be compressed by a prybar/screw driver once the pads are out.
