If not mentioned earlier, check your battery cables. The stock cables tend to break at the connections down low. I had a hall effect sensor fail due to the low voltage. I replaced them with Terry Cables. They use much finer strands like welding cable. You may be able to DIY with the right gauge of wire and connectors. YMMV
Also, most of the ignition manufacturers will swap a dead module for a new one at a reduced price (granted it wasn't fried by careless installation.

The battery cables have been checked both when I got the bike and also now and they are good! The bad connection was at a handlebar, and it was my mistake from 10 years ago for not making the connections properly...
The old ignition unit doesn't even seem to be on the market anymore, I looked it up to see if I could find any troubleshooting but I could find less than zero information about it
