Default Turn signal bulb options

I've got some aftermarket turn signal light housings on my bike. The socket is the correct size for an 1156 bulb. However, an 1156 bulb is too tall to fit in the housing. Does anyone know if there is a smaller bulb that draws the same power as the 1156? I'm not looking to switch to LED's.

The base of the 1156 bulb (to match the socket) is known as BA15s - The standard 1156 bulb uses 27 watts(2.1a) and produces 32CP/400L (1 candlepower equals 12.5 lumens)... It's 2.0" tall/long...

The problem of using a smaller bulb is the less light output and the lower current draw...

The Halogen JC12V/20W BA15S bulb produces only 20CP/250L - and draws 20 watts (1.67a)... It's 1.6" tall/long (Some brands are rated above 250L up to 350L - Who knows if they are accurate - This one claims 28CP/350L https://www.bulbamerica.com/products...e-halogen-lamp).

Most other miniature bulbs do not have light output close to the 32CP/400L of the 1156...

If you implement bulbs with less current draw than the 1156, you may need to add a load resistor to help increase the current draw for the Flasher to work correctly...

I always use an electronic flasher, rather than the thermal flasher.

Try an 89 bulb or a 1003

The only disadvantage that I found with the electronic flasher is the size - larger than the traditional flasher so more difficult to stuff into the headlight bucket. It probably won't fit the clip, and if the bucket is already full you have to make some space. Just have to do a bit more planning/experimenting when installing.

Yeah, space is a problem for me. My headlight is aftermarket, and smaller than stock. Even the traditional flasher really doesn't fit. I've just ordered an electronic one. I'll probably find another place to mount it.

Search for small globe 1156 bulb, they are available at Amazon and elsewhere, though I've never seen them in an auto parts store. Am using a pair at the rear of my Sportster (and another bike too) and they work fine.

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks! I was using the wrong search terms, so I wasn't finding them.

1003 is only 12W, 89 is 8W, neither is bright enough for turn signals...the 1156 small globe is 23W per the sellers...

A laser beam would not be bright enough for some drivers I have to share the road with.
