I read the story no problem, lots of ads, no difference to any other site, but not a problem.

Edit: post I was replying to has been deleted.

Thoughts and prayers to his family. The size of the hole in his helmet was amazing. Do you suppose they'll consider this in safety testing helmets?

I used to ride in any weather, until having lightening strike the shoulder of the road right alongside me. Will no longer ride whenever lightening is present.

No, don't think so. Because you can't protect against it. The only way is to divert lightning by using some sort of lightning rods from helmet, bike and touch (the) ground. But I think it's technically a challenge. Just don't ride in thunderstorms. And if you get caught in it, seek safe shelter and wait until it's over.

I had this happen to me and fellow rider back in '88. We felt the hairs on our arms, neck etc. stand up and I lead us onto the first approach we came upon, and rode up into a shelter belt. Just got off the bikes when lightning struck the shoulder of the road off to our left. Big blue dots for a while and we couldn't hear anything for about 3-4 hours. You were very lucky, sportsterpaul!

I saw this and wondered if carbon fiber is conductive and if the helmet was made of this type of material.

Florida has the most lightning strikes in the USA (per square mile), next are Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas.

Lightning here coming back from lunch. Not for the squeamish.

I, too wondered about his helmet.
