48 has mid-glide front end so triple trees are wider than normal sportster's narrow triple trees. And this why 48 has also different (wider) fork brace.
And the bottom half of the risers are integrated to 48's top triple tree. And the speedo housing has the upper half of the risers integrated. So 48's parts are not simple bolt on mods to other models. I think the new 1200C with fat front tire has also the same kind of configuration.
Here's one thread about converting from narrow to mid-glide front end: http://www.chopcult.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34954

I was thinking the same thing..that RSD piece is really nice looking but expensive..(you get what you pay for though!) add the cost of an upper bar clamp you'll need and the idiot light kit and it add's up quickly!

With Dremel work it can be done. With straight risers (of the correct height) your speedo could lay flat.
I did it to ditch the 'Custom' model riser. 2 1/2 " pull back risers are what I used.
Trust your Dremel work. Fit & refit.
I had to get the 48 light strip to fit the 48 'dash' lights.
Fits nicely overall.

As mentioned, you just need a dremel to trim off the edges of the risers. If/When you mock up the set-up, you will see what areas need to be trimmed. Just take your time with it...

Its actually a really easy mod to do. I put the Forty-Eight housing on my Nightster. Just remove the risers .. grind to fit and put it back together. Keep in mind you do have to relocate the headlight.

thanks dmhines, I had PMd you and found you posted this.
I do like the newer speedometer/tachometer that HD came out with.

Yes .. much nicer than the standard factory speedo .. includes RPM, Speedo and Gear indicator plus you can change it to all different colors. I did not go with the Gas Gauge but supports that also if you buy the correct sending unit.

You can install 48 speedometer cover to 883. You need these parts from H-D shop, they are for sportster 48.
48's Cover 71988-10
48's Bracket 71980-10
and then you need rise the bracket for 3,4-3,5 inch so you need the 48's risers and small spacer ring at the bottom. The stock 883 riser is 2 inch and I bought LA Choppers Riser Extensions 1 inch For Harley Forty Eight 2010-2019.
Got it to rise for about 3,4 inch and did not need to grind oem risers or remove the headlight lip.
The speedometer and the indicator unit are same on both bikes so those are reusable.
