You shouldn't be riding around under 2K RPM, maybe that's the issue. Your motor is telling you that it's not being treated well. Always keep it above 2500, even better, 3000.

You have to read Kitable 1/4 million words of advice to get an straight answer from him.

Your ignition plate, inside the nose cone, can have slightly slip out of range. Those years, the electronic ignition can be adjusted by rotating that plate a couples of degrees. Rivet can easily be removed with a drill, after, use threaded posts to screw back the cover.

I had an intermittent backfire when my module went out. Replace it with another module. It's plug play and just scribe a mark where the old module lines up in the housing.
