I wondered about the whirring sound too. I think it's the Andrews cams. I will say that I only put two quarts of oil in, as I didn't know how much was in the system. I'll top it up before I start it again. I sent the previous owner the link and she said it sounded spot on.

Drain all of the oil and put in correct amount of fresh 50W oil, and a new oil filter.

You might also consider cleaning the oil tank with kerosene and a wooden scraper before adding the new oil. This should be done one time with any newly acquired vintage motorcycle. No need to do it again with regular oil changes.

Mick, I changed out the oil to SAE 50. I also pulled the primary cover and discovered an issue. I'll be posting about that later and would love it if you would chime in. Thanks brucstoudt for the links on kicker slip. I'll be attending to that soon too. I got a new sprocket cover that came with the kicker support. Now I just need to figure out how to install it.
