I am running the 883 since I am a poor college student, but I do want to do the 1200 conversion sometime in the future. It is just not in the cards right now.

1250 mean green machine. Milled and ported heads, titanium valves, bored to 1250, s&s with port matched intake and a hypercharger, crane hi4 ignition, andrews n-8's, thunderheader, and every other thing known to man. 1200 conversion is not that expensive if you do the disassembly and reassembly. 100 for boring, couple of hundred for pistons and 60 for gaskets. Biggest h.p gain for the money.

03 XLH 883 with 200 miles on my conversion. Damm this thing runs good...Damm. I just got back from a 120mi twisty run up in the Santa Cruz Mountians. The conversion turned my bike into EXACTLY what I wanted the bike to be. I can point it at a corner, twist the throttle, and drill right through it. Damm this thing runs good... Damm

SE/K&N Air Cleaner
2 1/2 turns out on the idle jet
46 slow jet
185 main jet
1200 Jugs
10:1 dished SE pistons
SE bolt in cams, .497 lift I think
Thunder Header

Next buys:
LED Tail light, (cuz HD can't get it right)
Metzlers front and back

Damm this thing runs good... Damm

I know whatcha mean. I like speed as much as the next guy but I also enjoy exploring back country roads, running twisties and some occaisional long distance touring. For me, the 883 is just fine.
