well mr. need while that maybe true there are diff's.
when that guard is put on, the intent is NOT to use that fit as the retaining force, hence the very low fit, it is there to hold the guard on while the other operation is done, the retaining is done by the peen press. if this was a true press fit, then there would be no need for the peen process.
have fun with the screws. usually when the guard comes off, there is slack which you cannot take out, why do you not think that is why it came off in the first place.
it is just like the rivets on the iron head. not done properly, it WILL fail again. hence some get frustrated and weld it because they do not know nor have the proper equipment to do the task.
if you are to learn something, it is the industrial side that takes the beating 24/7 and trust me, i have seen companies cheap out on equipment and you spend more trying to keep online, the ole saying "build for an over-kill" does have a ring of truth!
his dime.

The other day I noticed one of those little bells on a Sporty that I was checking out in a parking lot. If not for this post I would not have known what it was for. It was hanging from the lowest point on the frame. Where can I get one?? Will try anything to keep mine running.

For the bell to work, someone have to give one to you, buying won't work. How come you didn't know about that.

That'd be a BIG help, but it still has to be a gift. Scare off the worst gremlins, for sure.

Wouldn't a dinner bell invite gremlins to come and eat a Sportster?

Yes, you heard right, on Friday the thirteenth, never shake a dinner bell if you own a motorcycle.

maybe that is what she needs. something to eat.
last encounter was with some cagers gremlins. BBQ'd them couldn't keep up with 130 run and still had some BBQ sauce to go.
