Default Right Hand Control Module issue (RHCM)

Over the weekend my 2019 Sportster 48 wouldn't start. Ran the trouble code through the FP3 and code U0142 (RHCM lost communication). I've taken apart the whole switch assembly on the right side & wires looked fine, circuit board also looked in good shape. Anyone have any troubleshooting ideas? Any way to identify the actual harness connector behind the left caddy cover by the seat? Would like to shy away from taking off the tank and seat to follow the wires down if possible. Should I just buy a new RHCM first ? Sorry for the ramble but any insight will be greatly appreciated ! ! !

Your switches are electronically sensed by the circuit board in the RH control... Then the CANbus communicates the position of the switches to the ECM/BCM with digital communication lines...

Make sure your connectors are clean & no pins are out of place (pulled back in the housing)...

Make sure the wires are not pinched anywhere (such as the RH control housing)...

For 2018, the connection to the main harness is listed as 22B-1... I don't know if your connectors are labelled on the bike or not but this connector has 4-pins (be careful, because connector 24B (LH control) also is 4-pins with exactly the same wire colors)...

If you are not experienced with electronics, you might need to simply order a new replacement:
71500297 SWITCH MODULE (Right Hand) - $152

Or check the auction site for used ones (may be too recent for used ones)

See 2019 parts here:

If it’s a 2019, it’s still in warranty; take it back to the dealer and get them to fix it.

there has been a couple of threads with a grip board going south so it does happen. personally i do not buy parts till i know it is the issue. of the threads that i got involved in, it turned out to be a diode failure. a factory manual will go a long way as well as the electrical manual. a schematic can be downloaded from hd's sip. i find them helpful but too small.
as was brought out, go with the warranty fix.
if you buy a new board, keep the old one as it can be repaired if you take the time and trouble.
