Default futbol thread

Fulbol, football, soccer, whatever you call it. We have a hockey thread and an American football thread, how about a soccer thread? I'm a football nut, I love it. Any other football fans on here? Who is your pick to win the World Cup? I'm going to pick Germany after seeing a few games. The U.S.A. was extremely lucky to win their match with Ghana. After seeing Portugal, I think the U.S. can beat them if they play a solid game. I just don't think they have the team to go far. I do like Klinsman as the coach.

I think Australia is in with a chance to get a participation award. But they won a game, there'd be Socceroo flags on half the car in Canberra.

I'm rooting for the USA..... MrsB has drawn them in her office sweepstake!

I'm not a footie fan by any means, and I won't be watching a match, but I hope a real outsider wins.

Italy is looking good to me.
A lot of surprise performances in this World Cup. Who would have thought that Spain & Portugal would put in such a dismal display. They didn't seem to connect well. Same goes for Argentina, but they lucked out.
These are the best players the world has to offer. But, a team needs to pull together for the common goal.
One thing that can be said is, this World Cup will entertain and surprise.

Should we do a poll to see who among us actually play the game? At 55, I'm no where near the oldest guy in the league. There are a couple of 70 year olds still holding their own.
As John Oliver revealed, Soccer/Futball is a religion. Some of us practice it. Sacrifice for it. Bleed for it. Yet, we love it...

Not a big fan myself (although my kids growing up in Hawaii played it...it is a big sport in Hawaii). Hoping (although I know it is hopeless) that the USA pulls out a miracle (only reason I am watching it is because of the USA in it). I think most Americans who are watching are like me. Kids played so there is an interest. Other than that, I have no clue who are the favorites except Brazil and Germany. Being of a Dutch abstract, I also would like the Netherlands to do well.

I am an American FOOTBALL fanatic though...;-) Good luck to all your teams! Go USA!....

The Dutch are very much in it, especially after their rout of Spain.

I live for the World Cup!!! My pick was Spain but after the Netherlands put it to them, I think Germany is probably the toughest. I'd like to see the US and Costa Rica get out of the group stages.

I with you Doc, I also live for the World Cup. I also think Germany is the team to beat. The U.S. has to learn to slow the game down and put a few passes together. Every ball can't be long. As I said earlier, I think Klinsman is on the right track, especially his decision to not take Donovan. The U.S.needs to develop a program to get players able to play in the major European leagues.
