Pinehurst NC
Heading down to Pinehurst to scout it out for a possible future work move. Winters only. Looks like it's a fair hike to the Dragon but would there be other roads worth checking out that are more local. Obviously the Tail is the big one but I would think there are more. Anyone have any advice?

Yeah, the sandhills are a long ways from the mountains, especially the very western part of NC.

Ed, lots of good riding in the foothills without going up into mountains. We don’t have a lot of “.elevation” riding here in Michigan so almost anywhere is a treat!

Ya we can find good riding anywhere. I'm guessing the good spots start west of Charlotte. Unfortunately Pinehurst is the only spot in NC I can do what I do.

Heading NNW from Pinehurst will bring you into Stokes and Surry Counties, and SW Virginia, where you will find entertaining riding, much closer than heading west. It's beautiful if relatively poor country.
