So, was yours the oldest sportster present? As for diesel bikes, my old motor pool at camp lejeune had these diesel courier dirt bikes for the field MPs that we “played” with when they weren’t around. We used to swipe them and hummers (the old non turbo 6.2 junky ones!) and cucv (k30 diesel Chevy square body pickups for those who aren’t familiar) and thrash them on the tank trails on the weekends. Call it training and you can get away with damn near anything!!

These…

Yes doodah man, mine was the oldest. Other than that one with too much chrome, which was a pre 75 cone motor XLCH, there was a couple of ratty Evo Sportsters and this...

...and they don't count, anywhere.

When I was at Lejeune (mid to late 70s) they tried out standard Dodge pick-ups in some units. They were junk, fell apart fast and didn't last long.

Magneto Sportster- About the chrome frames. My buddies '68 XLCH also has a chrome frame. I've posted this before.

This bike also has chrome engine case halves. I'll wipe the oil and crud off the engine and I'll try to remember to take some pics of it. This is the bike I got running a while back that water poured out of the magneto, shown here.

Here's the inside with all the stuff out of it.

It cleaned up good and with some new bits from Morris Magnetos it sparks just fine. It's a really fast bike, faster than mine.
