So apparently the only thing that kept the cover piece where it belonged in your cover was the washer on the generator?

If that's the case how could there be a consistent gap maintained between the 2 parts? ( cover and generator)

The guy who owns this engine hasn't quite fessed up about this , I will speculate ......... the generator came loose and wallered around , tearing up the oil deflector . I finally got a look at his generator recently , there are two sets of threaded holes , 5/16" fine & 5/16" course , the holes are damaged , to me that is evidence enough to say this generator has been run loose and has had a home handiwork thread repair.
There was metallic debris throughout the engine from the deflector , the crank pin , rod bearings n' cages .

I will make sure that the clearance between the oil slinger / washer and newly machined oil deflector is correct , I've already made several measurements.

1. Are you running low on 5/16 x 24TPI flex lok nuts ?

AND

2. Why are you letting Hippies into your workshop ?
The last time hippies visited , the 5/16" hardware bin was looted and there was a strange skunky smell lingering afterwards
