Not true. The girl who recorded the hit record, is not the girl the song was about.
The woman who actually inspired them to write the song is named Heloísa Pinheiro, who at the time (1962) was a seventeen year old girl living in Ipanema. She also became famous and cashed in on the song, but the singer who recently died was not even from Ipanema. Her name was Astrud Gilberto.
Actually born in Rio, Heloisa Pinheiro is still alive as far as I know.
