Default Rebuilt solenoid now bike tries to start when I connect batt cable? Wtf?

As the title says. My solenoid is garbage, I’ve rebuilt it multiple times, due to the wires coming un-soldered that hold the copper bolt and the skinny (key) bolt on inside the body of it.

So I did it for the third time, and tested it. All is well. Put it back on, go to reconnect the battery and shit tried to start? So it’s like bypassing a start button and just going for it? I can find nothing on the web.

When will I give up and stop trying to wire this bike?

1970 XLCH electric start only.

No start button was even hooked up at the time. No kill switch, chopper wiring. Bare essentials.

P.s. when I say third time, it ran for hundreds of miles in between those three times. I’m obviously not good at soldering?

Sounds like the ideal time to spring for a new solenoid. Internals have to be shorted out if only the two wires are connected to the solenoid.

When you make the repairs this time, try not to over torque the nuts.That twists the studs and breaks the plastic and/or causes the shorts that your having.

You’re absolutely right. Made that mistake a couple times. Now I’m like a surgeon with pliers and wrenches to make sure the nut moves and bolt(s) do(es) not. I found that there is a little ground wire inside spot welded or soldered, can’t tell, to the body . It came undone so I buttoned that up and redid everything. More just curious as to why this happened, either way, let u know when I fix .
