I live in the desert so it was gear the 883 or buy a bigger bike. Mostly open road. The thing is I like the new gearing even when I'm beating around town.

Under the same conditions the hemi chamber will typically have higher engine temps while making less power. The hemi chamber will also be more susceptible to detonation. The difference is how well/efficiently the mixture in the chamber burns. A more efficient burn typically gives lower engine temps, lower cylinder head temps and lower exhaust gas temps.
A good comparison is the pre-Evo hemi chambered 1200 vs the bath tub chambered Evo 1200. The Evo's run better, cooler and are less prone to detonation.

That's what I wanted to know! Thanks. If I understand this correctly, the bathtub bath tub chamber gives more efficiency which results in longer engine life.

Not being a technical wonk knowing cylinder shapes, divots, gearing, etc. I find it amazing that a Hammer conversion kit of a 883 to a 1200 produces quite a bit more power than an OEM 1200. Engineering is amazing with the tricks they can do to squeeze every bit of HP/TQ out of an 883 conversion.

Even if you don't buy their kits, the videos are educational on stock engines and performance kits.
