It looks like you noticed this, but just in case...

The throttle cables need to be rerouted to the other side of the frame, and you need to flip the cable guide over to the other side to accommodate that. If memory serves, that guide is black high impact plastic that mounts on the front tank mounts.

I kept my throttle cables the same as they were from the factory and have had no issues with them. I do have braided cables but they are the same length as my stock ones were. Almost everyone else it seems has had to relocate them to the other side of the frame. I don't know. I don't get any binding, my throttle snaps back just like it always has.

You have an 02, so I don't know about that year, but on the 05 (which is what I think the bike in question is also a rubbermount.

When you look at them on a rubbermount, they look like they are too restrained and the angle is too sharp.

Next time you have the tank off, look at yours and just imagine the line of the cables and see if it looks like a tight bend. Maybe you are lucky that it works good, and maybe yours is different than the rubbermounts.

Personally I over analize these things, but I always put thought in how the cables run, even on a stock bike. I have made improvements in the past, and they probably weren't necessary, but...

I remember the instructions that came with my carb saying to run the cables on the other side of the frame but I didn't want to buy new cables because I just bought new ones right before buying the mikuni. I get the reason behind it. The cables I bought do have a decent bend to them but it doesn't seem to affect the way it works. Or maybe it does and I just don't notice it. The throttle does snap shut when I let it go from any amount of applied throttle so for me it is working. I would venture to guess that from me having braided cables helps me keep the cables working properly. I have the magnum shielding Black Pearl cables on my bike.

Part of my problem was changing from the 3.3gal tank to a 4.5gal tank. The Custom tank is lower than the peanut tank. When I put my Sporty on a diet the peanut tank goes back on.
