What year (in your opinion) is the most collectible Sportster.
I came across an article about Jay Leno and his 180+ motorcycles and realized that there wasn't a Sportster among them. So, what do you think is the most collectable or rare Sportster made? I had a 1981 "Milwaukee" Sportster, orange and black of which there were only 804 of them made. But it was built from the last AMF parts but one of the first run without the AMF nameplate. The boattail's were rare. There weren't that many 1000's made, so what do you think?

That's a question for someone like an AMCA judge or museum curator who actually knows the statistics and who also knows the collector market and is not speculating, but it wouldn't be a street model. Harley have more silly "limited editions" than the Franklin Mint for the same reasons.
Any assertion would need numbers and collector provenance to back it up, not what an individual thinks is cool.

What comes to mind, for me, is that the '79 was a lot different compared to the ones made before and after. They were quite a headache to find aftermarket parts for because a lot of things had to made specific to the '79. I always thought it was one of the better looking Sportsters of that era. I also think the "-72-" will probably be collectable in the near future.

Maybe the '73 I had with a 1000 and right side shift.

Maybe an obvious choice, being rare and highly priced, but in my opinion it was the 1977–1979 XLCR. Primarily for the looks of it and not seeing it as a collectors item.

1100 was a rare beast, only made for 2 years. Often kick myself about the beautiful turquoise blue one I didn't buy.
Always liked the 69, last year for the magneto and that gorgeous tin primary

For me, without a doubt, that motorcycle, that Sportster is the most collectible of all.
