Default shifter arm

got a 1980 which has the shifter arm that goes under the footpeg, I have it adjusted as far as I can up and it still shift without hitting the footpeg. The problem is when wearing boots I find it hard to get my big foot under the peg to upshift because there isn't enough room between it and the peg. Anyone else have this problem and what did you do to make it better.

will take a pic, it's just the stock setup on the mid controls. the shifter shaft comes out just below and forward of the left footpeg and curves under the large nut that holds the peg bracket onto the primary cover.

take off shifter arm. replace it offset one spline down from where it was.

before removing you can mark the original position with something sharp, make a scratch from one end of the shifter shaft socket and then accros the end of the shifter shaft and through onto the other side of the shifter arm socket.

If that moves it too far, then heat with a torch and bend it to where you want it - then rechrome or repaint.

I think it needs to go farther out and up some so I can get my foot under it easier and one spline up makes it hit the large nut not letting it shift. Thought about bending it some but it is made of aluminum and not chromed, didn't know if it would bend or not without breaking. Guess I could just get a smaller foot

Same with my 79. There is not enough room between the peg & shifter to get you foot under if you are more than a size 9 foot. The shifter needs to be extended about 1-1/2" towards the front. I just put my foot in front on it and up shift with the rear inset of my heel.
