Default EFI fuel pump block off plate exists!

Hi everyone,

I am searching for a new tank for my 05 883r which means I can only look at 04-06 carburated tanks. This is kind of limiting and the nicer tanks are the 07 and later efi tanks.

After searching the forum first of course, I learned there is a pingel kit that goes into the stock efi pump mounting plate to convert the efi tank to carb. . . the problem is that this plate is not sold as a separate item and anyone selling an efi tank retained the plate and pump.

So one option is to fab a plate and weld in a petcock which for someone like me is above my skill level, and even for a skilled person could possibly ruin the paint when welding on this fabricated plate.

As of the last posts that were on this topic, noone out there was fabricating a bolt on plate for this application.

Guess, what . . the plate exists! It's not cheap and it's not in the US but I guess someone thought to make it. The first one below with shipping to US would be around $150, which seems high but still cheaper than the pingel components and you don't need the stock block off plate.

I just wanted to post this in the event it can help someone else in the future! I ended up finding a stock black tank, though with an ugly decal so I will be paying to repaint it anyway!

How are the 07 on tanks nicer than the 04-06 tanks?

I suppose "nicer" is a matter of opinion, but in any case being able to use more years gives you more variety. Personally I like most of the tanks on the Nightsters.

I can't justify the cost unless a person wanted to get a specific paint job that already existed on an EFI tank. Otherwise, a used painted tank or even a new bare tank is only a little more expensive and there are plenty of shapes and sizes to choose from without needing an adapter plate.

I see. So you're referring to paint schemes on the EFI tanks as being nicer rather than the tanks themselves as the tanks on the carbed rubbermounts are basically the same except for the 2.2 tank which wasn't available for the carbed rubbermounts.

Go to Ronnie's Harley Davidson click on the online parts finder at the top center of the page just below to the the right of wear it says Ronnie's and click on the Harley and choose your year and model and go to fuel pump assembly and you can find that plate and you can go to the bottom of the page and buy it by finding the corresponding number from the picture to the part list on the bottom.
It should be number 7 (seal/cover plate)

The OEM part is not an adapter and will not work to adapt a tank from EFI to carb

He states above that the plate does not usually come with the tank and that part number should be the plate that he needs to work with the pingel part

Edit: unless it is only for the seal and not the plate.

Yup, that's all I meant, I am definitely sticking with a 3.3 gallon tank.

The discovery of this part doesn't seem as groundbreaking as I intended, lol.

I supposed if it cost like 25 bucks instead of 150 it would be more useful but otherwise like in my case it is better to just custom paint a tank.
