Lightbulb Breathing thru the cam?

Now with the winter coming and my car finaly fixed, there migh be at last some Sportster related projects coming my way.

I am going to split the cases on the '86 to put in new cam bushings and may do something I've been thinking about for a while:

Let the engine breathe thru one of the cams, thereby use the rotation to fing the oil out of the air, preventing oil mist coming out when going fast over an extended period.
This will not be something I will start with before well into winter, but the discussion may wery well start now

Tore

Have you been at the mead, Tore?

This should be interesting - something to occupy the long winter evenings.

You don't have to split the cases to do that...interesting idea however.

No mead Myles

Yep it was the breathing on the BMW Rotax twins that gave me the idea,
they have holes on the outer edge of the gear for the water-pump,
that gear sits on the end of the innlet-cam.
Exit is at the center of the cam, never se any oil in the air-box of those.

The tought is to let the air come into the cam thru an opening as far from the center of the cam as possible,
to let sentripetal force fling the oil out of it (the air).
Then let it exit the engine thru the center of the cam,
via an extension through the cam-cover and then through a reed or umbrella valve.

Now I understand. Evo big twins use a similar system. What might be even better is to try to adapt the S&S reed valve system. Just not sure where you would put it:

I Guess i do not understand how you could breather thru a cam and also have an umbrella or reed valve then? Do you have a pic of the other bikes system you talked about?
