Default Posting Pics From ImgBB

For anyone wanting to host pics in ImgBB, here are some pointers.

Resizing

You need to resize your pics to the size that you want before you upload them. I'd recommend a maximum size of 1024 × 768 for posting on the Forum. You're supposed to be able to resize pics as you upload them, but this doesn't seem to work.

I use Microsoft Picture Manager for resizing (and rotating, cropping, etc). I gather that there are various other programs available that you can use.

Recent versions of Microsoft Office don't include Picture Manager, but you can still get it:

Creating Albums

In ImgBB you can create albums from the picture list (the top level, the 'profile'), or the album list. You don't have to create any albums, but it can be useful to keep your pics organized, and to keep track of them. It also allows you to get the 'embed codes' for all of the pics in an album in one hit. You can always get the 'embed codes' for pics as you upload them, however many there are. But if you don't do this, and need to get the codes later, and you don't use albums, then you can only get the code for one pic at a time.

Click the 'Create new album' button to create an album:

Give the new album a name, and, if you want, a description, then click 'Save Changes':

Here's the new album (empty as yet):

Here it is in the album list:

Uploading

You can upload pics from anywhere in ImgBB (the picture list, the album list, within an album, or while viewing a single pic) by clicking the 'Upload' button in the top right corner. You can drag and drop, paste, browse from your computer, or use the URL.

When you upload a pic you can chose an album to put it in, or just upload it not into any particular album. You can always move it later.

From within an album there's also an 'Upload to album' button, which goes straight into browsing for a pic from your computer, but once you've selected a pic or pics, it's the same deal (choose an album, etc).

Once you've selected some pics to upload, you get a screen with:
  1. Little thumbnail previews of the pic(s) to be uploaded. This is where you're supposed to be able to resize pics.
    .
  2. A drop down box where you can select, or change, an album for the pics to be uploaded to.
    .
  3. The 'Upload' button.
Click the 'Upload' button to upload pics:

Or, in an album, click the 'Upload to album' button:

Select the pics that you want to upload, and click the 'Open' button:

Click the 'Upload' button to upload:

When the upload is complete, capture the 'embed codes'; under BBCodes in the drop down box, select 'BBCode full':

When the codes are displayed, click to select them, and copy:

Once you've saved the codes somewhere, click 'X CLOSE'; the new pics will have been uploaded (you'll probably need to refresh the screen to see them):

Posting

For each pic, you need to get an 'embed code' from ImgBB, which you put in your post on the Forum to make your pic appear.

You can capture the 'Embed codes' when you upload the pics. The one you want is called 'BBCode full' (BBCodes, 'BBCode full'). It'll be in this format:
[img]URL of pic[/img]
If you've already uploaded a pic, and didn't capture the code, you can still get it afterwards. There're a couple of different ways.
  1. Code for a single pic.
    .
Click the pic to display it. You can do this from the picture list (the top level, the 'profile'), or, if it's in an album, from the album. Click on 'Embed codes' (below the title of the pic). This will display several codes. You want the fourth one in the list: Full image, BBCode.
    .
  2. Codes for all the pics in an album.
    .
Go to the album that you want, and click on 'Embed codes' (just above the pics). From the drop down box, select BBCodes, 'BBCode full'. Copy the codes, then you can sort out which code(s) you actually want. You can make the pics display again by clicking 'Most recent' (or whatever you want).
When you've got your code, just paste it into your post. Don't use the 'Insert Image' button ().

To get the 'embed code' for a single pic, click 'Embed codes' and scroll down; in the 'Full Image' section, select the 'BBCode' code, and copy:

To get the 'embed codes' for all the pics in an album, click 'Embed codes', and under BBCodes in the drop down list, select 'BBCode full':

When the codes are displayed, click to select them, and copy:

Navigation

To get to the album list, or get back to the picture list, click on your user name in the top right corner to open a drop down box:

Click on 'Albums' to go to the album list, or click on 'My Profile' to go back to the picture list.

In the album list, click on an album to open it. In the picture list or in an album, click on a pic to open it.

Errors

From time to time some actions (such as uploading pics, for example) will fail with an error message. I've found that when this happens, closing and then reopening ImgBB clears the problem.
