Talking Please Post Photos Of Your Sportster Loaded For The Road

If you tour or camp on your Sportster, I would really like to see photos of your bike loaded for the road, if you could describe what gear you are using, that would be a big bonus. Also if you could tell me about the one piece of gear you wont leave home without, that would be very cool.

Thanks: Mike

Nah, I don't think I'd ever want to pull a trailer. Takes a too much fun out of riding the twisties. I'm doing 2 weeks to California at the end of July. The bike will pretty much look the same. Most everything I have fits in that big green Cabella's compression sack.

One large bag with clothes for 3 days
One slightly smaller bag that fit inside with ALL my tools for working on Ironhead...Though oddly enough i spent 3 hours trying to get her carb to stop leaking and I only had to pull my bike over once to re-adjust points

Wrench kit: 8 wrenches
2 different sparkplug sockets (mine and Hers)
multidriver with kit for different attachments
Chain lube
Brake cleaner
Standard and metric ballend hex keys
jumper cable
Factory manual
socket wrench and various sockets and deep sockets
special Ironhead wrenches
Sparkplugs ( his and Hers)
points
condenser
Innertubes
large flat screwdriver
small flat screwdriver
large crescent wrench

I may have missed soemthing, but I don't feel like digging through my pouch right now

Readjusting stuff.

This was for a 3 day camping trip:
  • REI one man tent on the handlebars.
  • Summer weight sleeping bag on the back.
  • Kuryakyn Classic Tour Bag on back with clothes, 1 qt oil, and assorted camping gear (flashlight, candles, biodegradable TP, soap, etc.)
  • Small roll bag with $1.50 Wally World air mattress~priceless!

I'm replacing the Kuryakyn with a large Bikers Friend bag this season.

No more tools than usual. Just a quart of oil that I didn't use. No rain gear, but I'll have some next time!

There are some pics of other bikes too in this older thread.

No need to apologize. It's not really a dupe since you are asking about the gear too.

For a good gear report, check out drcstang's blog about the Alaska trip.

Thanks again for the link and thanks, KC_Sporty_Gal, Irondrake77, and 883xl, for the photos. This gives me an idea of how all this stuff fits on a Sportster, saves me time climbing the learning curve and saves me money by not having to buy gear that doesn't work.

I always take with me one of these:

and this tire repair kit

extra bungees, a flashlight, red, blue, and green loctite, and an assortment of torx and hex.
