Default Setting timing

I have a question about a nose cone ignition module. I have the Twintec 1005. Got it set up and static and dynamic timed. Even with the lowest setting on the switches, I have detonation at the slightest application of the throttle. Retarding the module back to the static timing point helps. My question is how far back can I go? Until it settles down and runs without detonation or can I only retard back as far as the static timing point? Is there any harm being done by retarding back past the static timing point? Is it possible to retard the module far enough back to cause other problems? I've probably asked the same thing 5 different times, but I'm just asking as they come to me.

There is no problem with turning your igntion down by retarding it past the static timing. Static is usually about 28 degrees and often we have to start ours out around 26 degrees or even less if the compression is high. You would be surprised how many bikes we get on the dyno that are way too advanced. When we turn them down we will find 5-10 more hp just with a simple timing adjustment. More advance is not necessarily a good thing even if you don't hear any detonation.

Thanks Dan. Oh I received the carb bracket and got it installed. It is just what I needed to replace that cheap chrome bracket that blocks the idle mixture screw. Thanks again!

Do you have a VOES? If not, is there a wire for it on the Twin Tec? (Not my brand) My iggy wants the wire grounded if not used...

Yes Voes is connected and operational. I set the timing back a few degrees retarded from the static point and it's running much better.

Did you adjust your VOES? Are you running colder plugs.

Both need to be done.

Clockwise will advance timing and counter-clockwise will retard timing.
