Default 883C '04 25Kw version?

My '04 Sportster has a remark on the VIN label saying it is the 25Kw version. This equates to 33BHP and is probably for new riders in the UK. Does anyone know how this restriction is fitted and how to remove it? The local dealer had never heard of it.

I don't believe Harley puts a restriction on the KW at the factory so since it is on the VIN I would say all UK 883s say that. Ask some of the other UK guys here if their Sportster VINS say anything about the KW.

Just install a good AC and exhaust, maybe a rejet and you will have more then 25KW.

There was a thread on here earlier about that, and I want to say there is a restrictor plate between the carb and the intake manifold. A search should find it, I think there were even pictures and a way to remove the restriction.

I don't think that remark is saying that your bike is a 25 KW version (there isn't one). Does it say:
99 dB(A) - 3000 min-1
25 KW Version 99 dB(A) - 2950 min-1
Don't all the VIN labels say that? My bike has got a 33 bhp restrictor fitted, but the label said that before the restrictor was fitted. H-D don't ship any bikes from the factory in a 25 KW version, even to the UK where some (very few) riders need them restricted due to the terms of their license.

Hi Folkie. You're right, the label does say that. I guess I'll just have to see if it looks like your pic in the other thread. It's just that I'm not sure about playing with engines, it's been about 40 years since I last did anthing like that.

Hi Geoff,

What's your top speed like? With the restrictor, mine won't go above 80 - 85. If you can go faster than that, I'd say your bike isn't restricted.

Welcome to the Forum by the way. There's quite a few Brits on here.

Nigel

Hi Folkie, just took the airfilter off and had a look, no sign of a restrictor plate in there so I assume I'm not restricted. I had 95 out of it, hanging on for dear life, and i think it would have gone faster but a roundabout was looming.
Geoff.
